Banana Bread with Nutella Swirl

I love banana bread. Big slices toasted and buttered nom nom nom! I love to experiment with what flavours I can put into breads. Coconut, almonds, oats and of coarse chocolate! Nutella is one of those 'foods' that  are a fantastic addition to cakes. You can use it as an icing. I like to dot it through baked goods, or spread it on a toasted croissant. Today I thought I would try swirling it through banana bread.

1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 medium mashed bananas
2 eggs
1/3 vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-2 tablespoons nutella

Preheat oven to 160C fan forced.
Sift the flour. baking powder, cinnamon and sugar into a mixing bowl.
Next mix all the rest of the ingredients, except the nutella, into a small bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the dry.
Spoon 1/2 the mixture into a lined baking loaf tin, then dot the nutella over the mixture. Spread the remaining mixture over the nutella.
Bake for about 40-50 minutes, depending on your oven.

  1. oooooh yummy! I LOVE banana bread. I had some this afternoon (from a cafe, sadly not made by me). This one looks like a winner. It has risen really nicely.

  3. Thanks Lorraine! My husband has taken on the challenge of trying to eat the whole loaf himself haha!

Thanks Heidi, I love your blog so much! I was watching the banana bread rise, and rise....I'm not sure how or why it rose like that, I've used the same ingredients before, but it was a lovely surprise! ;)

  4. Stumbled across your blog in the Vogue forums - this recipe looks delicious. I will definitely have to give it a try!
