Mother's Group

Whats the point of a mummas group??

I'm sorry, but I find it all a bit MEH. Dont get me wrong, I like the ladies in the group very much. But it feels like a massive cult, that you just have to join once you have a bub.

So many people, doctors, nurses and other mums, want you to be part of a group, and often encourage you to do so. I understand why. It is very healthy to get out and about as soon as you can. You want to feel normal and part of something. But, I don't know, I find it.....cultish? All sitting around, with big prams and/or bags and slings etc taking over huge sections of cafes, just to sit there for a couple hours on only a coffee???!!! I always want to order food, or something more substantial.

Maybe it's cause I used to work in my brothers cafe, I understand how the owners/proprietors feel.

And then on top of that, we only talk about our kids! I feel like I'm the only one that wants to talk about other things too, not just little G's sleeping pattern and poo's!

I'm also still uncomfortable with breast feeding her in public, but I have been persisting with it. We are just getting the hang of it too, I'm happy to say. I'm no where near as shy as I was.

And to the pervy guys in the cafe the other day, SHAME ON YOU!!!! That's all....

I read a very interesting post on the blog, Wife and Baggage to Follow, about leaving your baby OUTSIDE THE CAFE, in the pram!! This is not something I would be comfortable doing at all!  It freaks me out actually.

Last week, I left little G with my mum for less than an hour, to have brunch with my hubby in Brasserie Bread. The whole time, I kept looking at my phone (hello my mother raised me, and I trust her with little G more than anyone, besides the hubby!!) But I still had that awful feeling in the pit of my stomach, like I'd left something behind....Next time, I'd like to take little G, and if there is no room in a cafe, I'd be more than happy to leave the buggy outside ;)

Lemony Blueberry Biscotti Bread

I love having things like, home made biscotti on hand to snack on. I have always been a big fan of making my own snacks. I love to know what is in the food I'm eating. Most of the time, I'm not a fan of highly processed food at all. Don't get me wrong, I love a good salt and vinegar chip. I just prefer and enjoy, to make my own snacks.

I love to bake, rain, hail or beautiful sunshine. It makes me smile, well only when the baked goods turn out, otherwise....... :(

This is my way of making biscotti. I start with making a couple small loaves of blueberry bread, and use that to cut thin slices. I'd freeze one whole loaf, and use the other for biscuits.

This amount makes 2 quite small loaves, but I like to have small, delicate, but crisp melt in your mouth biscuits. Fantastic with a cup of coffee.

80 grams butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cup plain flour
1/4 nut meal, I used almonds and crushed them myself
zest from 1 lemon
1 cup fresh/ frozen blueberries
1/3 cup slivered almonds, toasted
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon yoghurt

For the Lemony Blueberry Bread

preheat the oven 170C.
cream the butter and sugar together, add the eggs one at a time.
add the rest of the ingredients and mix this by hand
bake for 45 minutes, in a loaf tin.

For the Biscotti

Turn the oven up to 190C.
Slice as thin as you can, and place them on a baking tray. Bake these for 6-8 minutes to dry out to form a biscotti. The more you bake them the crunchier they become, just be careful not to burn them.

Weekend in Pics

Hubby and I decided to surprise the family and spend the weekend down in Sydney.

A few pics from last week.

Day 1:
Little G on the drive there. She was great on the long drive :D She slept and looked around. It was wonderful!! I had time without my little koala, clinging to me.

My gorgeous little Niece, she loves the camera.
Little G kept stroking the back of her cousins neck and she hated it!!!!
My naughty girl hitting her cousin, by accident. She was NOT IMPRESSED!

Little G and I shopping in Bondi. She has spew down the front of her.....But she's happy!

Everyone (by everyone, I mean all the GEN Y's LOL) were lining up to have their names stamped on a coca cola??? Meh, what the heck for?
I have to have Thai Riffic. I always crave it when I'm in Westfield Bondi.

Day 2
Coffee and much needed hot chocolate from Brasserie Bread. You can tell the coffee belongs to my husband, cause he dumped sugar in there before I could get a pic.

Beans, bacon, egg and sour dough.
Panini, bacon, spinach, egg and hollandaise. Mine lunch of course. I find it difficult to go past hollandaise.....
Little G, pooped and sleeping in her cousins bed.
Chucky on the drive back to Port.

Avocado Pound Cake

I absolutely adore avocados. I could scoop out the flesh and eat it off the spoon!

We are so lucky to be living right near an avocado farm. Well it is good and bad. I end up eating way too many when we get avocados by the bucket!

I'm always looking for different ways to eat them. This is one of my favourite ways to eat them baked. An avocado pound cake. It has more of a creamy, nutty flavour than a full on avocado hit. I love it with a sweetened cream cheese spread over a warm slice, with a full bodied tea of coarse!

1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup cashews
1/4 cup light olive oil
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 med avocados
1/2 cup milk

Preheat the oven 170C.
Blend the avocados, cashews, oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla and milk until smooth.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry, mix with a spatula. Pour the batter into a lined loaf tin. Bake for about 40 minutes.
Freezes really well.

Goodnight From Your Worker Friends

This is played every night from Mon-Fri at 7.30pm.

I find it very creepy....Especially the 'fireman.' He is frightening! There is no way a kid would sleep with him tucking them in....

OMG southern cross ten, this is hideous!
